Five expressions of Touriga Nacional, from granite to schist.
About this Event

Touriga Nacional is Portugal’s flagship red, and for most of the last century it was also its most inconvenient. Tiny berries, thick skins, yields so low that growers pulled it out in favour of easier things. It took decades of patient work to bring it back.

Five of them, in one evening, poured light to full and dry to sweet. We begin on high-altitude granite in the Dão and finish with the Port that made the grape famous in the first place.

Each guest will be served tasting pours of all five wines alongside a shared selection of light bites, so you can follow the grape across the country and return to any of them as the evening goes on.

The Wines

Quinta dos Carvalhais 2021, Dão
High-altitude vineyards ringed by mountains, on granite soils with cool nights. Often called the home of elegant Touriga. Violets, red and black berries, a touch of herbs. Fresh and finely structured with silky tannins.

Quinta do Piloto 2023, Península de Setúbal
Grown near Palmela, south of Lisbon, where sunny days meet Atlantic breezes over sandy clay soils. Ripe plum and blackberry with floral lift and gentle spice. Smooth, fruity and approachable.

Herdade do Rocim 2025, Vidigueira, Alentejo
Warm, sun drenched plains in southern Portugal, from an estate known for low intervention farming. Plush and generous, with dark cherry, blackcurrant, chocolate and a hint of cedar. Round and soft on the palate.

Esporão Assobio 2023, Douro
Steep schist terraces where hot summers and poor soils give concentrated, mineral wines. Deep and structured, with black fruit, wild herbs, stony minerality and firm tannins. The most powerful table wine of the evening.

Invincible Ruby Port, Douro
Fortified in the Douro, where Touriga Nacional lends colour, perfume and structure. Vibrant and sweet, with ripe cherry, blackberry and hints of chocolate, closing on a warming spirit finish.
