(Click on image above to open poster.) The Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra (PTSO) will hold this season's Young Artist Competition on Saturday, April 11 at Grace Lutheran Church (1120 Walker St, Port Townsend). This annual event provides performance opportunities, recognition and awards for young musicians in Jefferson County. There are Junior and Senior Divisions based on age. The deadline for application is March 28.
Tigran Arakelyan, PTSO Artistic Director and Conductor, stated, “Our goal with this competition is to provide local young musicians a positive performing experience with feedback from professional artists, as well as a fun day with their musical peers. Past participation has been strong and we hope everyone encourages young musicians in our community to apply.”
The PTSO Young Artist Competition is held free of any charges for participants. It is open to young musicians 4-22 years old at the time of the competition, who play strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion or piano, who reside in Jefferson County, Washington, and who did not win first prize in the Senior Division the previous year. Cash awards range from $75 - $500 and first place winners may be invited to perform as a future featured soloist with the Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra.
