About this Event

Live in West Oakland? Want to grow as a leader for environmental justice and climate justice? Check out our Port 101 series! We’re zeroing in on West Oakland’s most notorious neighbor–the Port of Oakland–and sharing skills around advocacy, air quality data, environmental health, and decarbonization.

In our final session, we’re looking into the future. What does the future look like beyond dirty diesel? How will growth at the Port affect our community?

  • Clean Ports is a massive investment in zero-emission equipment that will decarbonize 5% of the Port’s fleet. Learn what that could do for West Oakland, and how we could leverage this funding for a greater community impact.
  • Learn how the Port is projected to grow in the coming years, and what West Oakland could look like with more diesel trucks and more zero-emission trucks on the roads.
  • Get a crash course in decarbonized technology. Learn the difference between hydrogen fuel and battery electric storage, two different types of energy with different advantages and drawbacks.

This workshop is funded by Clean Ports, a $322 million investment in zero-emission technology by the Port of Oakland. WOEIP, the West Oakland Cultural Action Network, Black Cultural Zone, and Rose Foundation for Community and Environment are working with the Port to monitor the project and keep the community informed.
