On the closing day for the Season for Nonviolence, April 4, join the Casa Peace Ministry to watch "Disturbing the Peace," a film about people born into conflict, sworn to be enemies, who challenged their fate by daring to see God’s image in the faces of their enemies. The film follows everyday people in Palestine and Israel who took extraordinary actions to reach out to their “enemies” to work for peace. Just like those who came before them – Jesus, St. Francis of Assisi, Gandhi, Sophie Scholl, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and many others – the people in this film recognized that love is more powerful than the most destructive weapons of war.
After viewing, we will discuss this thought-provoking film about Palestinians and Israelis who launched Combatants for Peace, a grassroots community that works nonviolently to bring peace, equality, and freedom to the region. Launched in 2006, Combatants for Peace is the only movement worldwide that was founded by former fighters on both sides of an active conflict. They were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 and 2018.
This movie challenges us to understand the perspectives of others, to look at our current roles in our societies, and to decide what role we are going to play in creating a more humane world for all. It starts with our willingness to assertively speak the truth about the sacredness of all human life and to disturb the artificial silence that promoters of war try to impose. What can we do to help promote peace and justice in the land where Jesus was born and lived?
