Pollinators in the Park
About this Event
Show your love for bees, butterflies, and more during our Pollinator Week celebration at Kathleen's Canyon Overlook on Sunday, June 28! Started by the Pollinator Partnership, this annual week hopes to raise awareness for pollinators and spread the word about what we can do to protect them.
This drop-in program features a variety of activities set in this coastal dune scrub habitat. Search for the park's variety of pollinators by using nets and other tools. Learn how to identify various groups of insects and how to use iNaturalist to add your observations to the Pollinator Week Project. Get inspired by the park's native plants and pollinators to create artwork. And, for those with young kids, play on a nature-themed playground. There's sure to be something fun for everyone!
Kathleen's Canyon Overlook is a conservation property owned by our organization (The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County) that we manage for both habitat and public access. Open from dawn to dusk each day, the park features rare California dune scrub habitat, native plant gardens, a deck overlooking the canyon with views north across the dunes, a children's playground with a woodland theme, benches and picnic tables, a level decomposed granite walking path, and portable restrooms.
