May 23 at 2:00 PM, Pollinator-Friendly Gardening: Pollinators need our help! Populations of all our pollinators are declining, including native bees, domestic bees, flies, beetles, and butterflies. They are affected by habitat loss, disease and contact with pesticides. But together we can make a difference.
There are 4 easy steps:
Provide Food (nectar and pollen)
Provide a Water Source
Provide Nesting Sites
Safeguard Pollinators by Avoiding Invasive Plants and Pesticides
August 15 at 2:00 PM, Herbs: Growing & Uses: Why grow herbs?
An herb is a plant that has medicinal, aromatic, or culinary properties. They are historical, dating back to the Egyptian dynasties when pyramid workers were fed garlic and radish seeds to keep them healthy. Native Americans use them extensively. Some herbs, such as dill and fennel, are host plants for butterflies. If there's such a thing as an "all-around plant," then that plant is an herb.
October 17 at 2:00 PM, Houseplants: Houseplants can enhance your home in the winter with color and cheerfulness while adding air-purifying qualities to the home. Learning how to develop an ideal environment for houseplants will create lasting enjoyment. Increasing humidity during winter when air indoors tends to be drier, or fertilizing during the warmer months when plants are actively growing, are some of the small steps necessary to keep a plant healthy.
