Eleni mae'r Adran Gwleidyddiaeth a Chysylltiadau Rhyngwladol yn dathlu 125 o flynyddoedd. Fe'i sefydlwyd yn ystod hydref 1899, y flwyddyn y dechreuodd y Rhyfel Eingl-Boer, pan oedd 240 ceiniog mewn punt. Mae hyn yn golygu ei bod yn un o'r cyntaf i'w creu mewn prifysgol siartredig yn y DU, ac roedd yn deillio o fenter gan y dyneiddwyr a'r diwygwyr cymdeithasol J S a Millicent Mackenzie. O'r cychwyn cyntaf, roedd gan yr Adran Gwyddor Wleidyddol, fel yr oedd bryd hynny, berthynas agos â'r gyfraith a chysylltiadau rhyngwladol. Roedd y maes llafur yn cynnwys y broses ddeddfwriaethol; cyfraith a moesoldeb; cyfraith ryngwladol; a meddwl gwleidyddol, ac mae pob un o'r rhain, ynghyd â llawer mwy, yn dal yn ganolog yn y cwricwlwm. Yn ystod blwyddyn academaidd 2024-2025, bydd Ysgol y Gyfraith a Gwleidyddiaeth yn dathlu 125 mlynedd gyda chyfres o weithgareddau, gan gynnwys darlithoedd cyhoeddus, arddangosfeydd a diwrnod chwaraeon i fyfyrwyr a staff.

Nodwch y bydd mynediad drwy docyn yn unig.

Dydd Iau 17 Hydref (17:00-18:30)

Lleoliad: Darlithfa 0.22, Ysgol y Gyfraith a Gwleidyddiaeth

Siaradwr: Yr Athro Sergey Radchenko – LAWPL a Phrifysgol John Hopkins, Sefydliad Ymchwil Polisi Bologna

Teitl: "Ydyn ni mewn rhyfel oer arall? Tebygrwydd hanesyddol a chyfyng-gyngor gwleidyddiaeth ryngwladol heddiw."

Crynodeb: Bydd y ddarlith yn ystyried y tebygrwydd rhwng y Rhyfel Oer (1945-1991) a'r foment bresennol i weld a yw rhyfeloedd oer bellach yn nodwedd a gaiff ei hailadrodd mewn gwleidyddiaeth ryngwladol, neu a ydym ni'n profi rhywbeth hollol wahanol i'r Rhyfel Oer gwreiddiol. Bydd Radchenko yn tynnu ar ei lyfr newydd, To Run the World: the Kremlin’s Cold War Bid for Global Power (Gwasg Prifysgol Caergrawnt, 2024) wrth drafod penderfyniadau Moscow a Beijing, ac yn ystyried ym mha ffyrdd y mae wedi esblygu, a sut mae wedi aros yn ddigyfnewid ers 1945.

Bywgraffiad:

Mae'r Athro Sergey Radchenko yn frodor o Ynys Sakhalin, Rwsia. Treuliodd ei flynyddoedd ffurfiannol yn Rwsia a'r Unol Daleithiau, a chyflawnodd astudiaethau israddedig yn yr Unol Daleithiau, Hong Kong a Llundain. Derbyniodd ei radd israddedig o Ysgol Economeg Llundain yn 2001 (mewn Cysylltiadau Rhyngwladol) a PhD o'r un lle (Hanes Rhyngwladol). Wedi hynny bu'n gweithio ym Mongolia (Prifysgol Genedlaethol Mongolia), yn yr Unol Daleithiau (Prifysgol Pittsburg State), y DU (Ysgol Economeg Llundain), a Tsieina (Prifysgol Nottingham Ningbo China). Yn 2014, symudodd Radchenko i Gymru, gan ymgymryd â swydd ym Mhrifysgol Aberystwyth, a symud ymlaen yn ddiweddarach i Brifysgol Caerdydd. Ers 2021, Radchenko yw Athro Nodedig Wilson E. Schmidt yr Ysgol Astudiaethau Rhyngwladol Uwch, Prifysgol Johns Hopkins. Mae hefyd yn aelod o'r Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs, SAIS.

This year the Department of Politics and International Relations celebrates its 125th anniversary. It was established in the Autumn of 1899, the year that the Anglo Boer War began, and when there were 240 pennies to a £. This makes it one of the first to be created at a chartered university in the uk, and was the result of an initiative by the humanists and social reformers J S and Millicent Mackenzie. From the beginning the Department of Political Science, as it was then named, had a close relationship with law and international relations. The syllabus included the legislative process; law and morality; international law; and, political thought, all of which are still central, in addition to much more, to the curriculum. During the course of the academic year 2024-2025, the School of Law and Politics will be celebrating the 125th anniversary with a series of activities, including public lectures, exhibitions and a staff student sports day.

Please note, admittance will be via ticket only.

Thursday 17th October (17:00-18:30)

Venue: Lecture Theatre, 0.22, School of Law and Politics

Speaker: Professor Sergey Radchenko – LAWPL & John Hopkins University, Bologna Institute for Policy Research

Title: “Are we in another Cold War? Historical parallels and present-day dilemmas of international politics.”

Abstract: This lecture will consider the parallels between the Cold War (1945-1991) and the current moment to see whether cold wars have now become a recurring feature of international politics, or whether we are experiencing something entirely different from the original Cold War. Radchenko will draw on his new book, To Run the World: the Kremlin’s Cold War Bid for Global Power (Cambridge UP, 2024) for insights about Moscow’s and Beijing’s decision-making, and explore in what ways it has evolved, and how it has remained unchanged since 1945.”

Biography:

Professor Sergey Radchenko is a native of Sakhalin Island, Russia. He spent his formative years in Russia and the United States, and pursued undergraduate studies in the US, Hong Kong, and London. He received his UG degree from the London School of Economics in 2001 (in International Relations) and a PhD from the same (in International History). He subsequently worked in Mongolia (National University of Mongolia), in the United States (Pittsburg State University), the UK (London School of Economics), and China (University of Nottingham Ningbo China). In 2014, Radchenko moved to Wales, taking up a position at Aberystwyth University, and later moved to Cardiff University. Since 2021, Radchenko serves as the Wilson E. Schmidt Distinguished Professor at the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. He is also a member of the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs, SAIS.
