About this Event

This event will outline evidence-based principles that underpin the achievement of our sustainability goals on the island of Ireland.

Researchers behind the YAI Sustainability Statement will outline often overlooked factors limiting our ability to meet policy ambition, covering fields of genetic and biodiversity; energy; and health.

Topics include:
  • The inadequate measurement of genetic diversity;
  • Interacting effects and 'wicked problems' from multiple environmental changes;
  • the untapped potential to minimise the carbon footprint of data centres;
  • the ancillary policy mechanisms required to maximise the benefits of renewable energy on the island;
  • and the importance of microbial sustainability as a foundation for human, animal and environmental health.

These and other issues are often overlooked, and their importance underappreciated. Key actions for policy and research will be outlined. Join the researchers as they delve deeper into the evidence behind these issues. A panel discussion and Q&A session will follow this.

A display of relevant materials from the Royal Irish Academy Library collections will accompany the launch, showcasing resources connected to themes explored in the Sustainability Statement.
