About this Event
Book Launch: Policing the Beats: Black Music, Racism and Criminal Injustice in Britain
Why are rap lyrics read out as criminal evidence in British courtrooms? And how have Black communities kept making extraordinary music in spite of it all?
Come and find out at this free, in-person event over snacks, music and conversation! (This event is open to everyone, including non-warwick members).
Join us at the University of Warwick on Tuesday May 26, 2026 from 2:30-4:00pm PM for a thought-provoking book launch of Dr Lambros Fatsis's new book, 'Policing the Beats'. This event celebrates Black Britain and explores the impact of policing, racism and criminal injustice on Black music.
Tirza and Faustine, two Black British PhD students and music lovers, sit down with two legends:
- (Dr) Lambros Fatsis is the author of Policing the Beats, who lectures on the history of police racism and the criminalisation of Afro-diasporic music culture(s) at City St George's, University of London.
- MC Roachee: artist and member of Roll Deep, the iconic grime crew behind a generation of Black British music
Room details will be confirmed with your ticket.
