The Point of Jazz is a jazz collective led by graduates of the music department at University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. This week the house band consists of Kadin Yach (p) Jessie Crandall (b) and Ryan Thomas (d). Every Thursday the group plays at Stone Arch Brewpub in Appleton Wisconsin from 7:30-9:30PM. They play a one hour set featuring that week’s guest artist, then open the floor for community members to join in on their respective instruments. This week‘s featured artist is the Christian Dyble
Chris is a Wisconsin-born jazz and improvisational musician. A multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, and educator, he’s often known on stage as “Papa Nubs,” a name that comes from his life as a one-handed musician.
His musical influences reflect a modern artist shaped by the vast, ever-growing catalogs of the Information Age. From an early age, Chris was captivated by the sheer range of music available to him. Music spanning the centuries of old and the times of new all just a click away.
While he finds inspiration in many styles, he found a true sense of freedom in jazz, the deeply rooted American art form. It’s within this space that he brings together his wide range of influences, using improvisation as a way to express something personal, fluid, and ever evolving.
