The Point of Jazz is a jazz collective led by recent graduates of the music department at University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Every other Thursday the group plays at Stone Arch Brewpub in Appleton Wisconsin from 7:30-9:30PM. They play a one hour set featuring that week’s guest artist, then open the floor for community members to join in on their respective instruments. This week‘s featured artist is Michael Murphy.

Michael Murphy is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Wisconsin, currently based in Nashville, TN. He grew up playing classical music and later discovered rock and pop music starting a band with his two brothers. While studying Jazz Composition, Guitar and Classical Voice, Murphy transitioned into producing and recording music for various artists and multiple solo projects. His solo work combines his love for 70s Pop/Rock/Americana and current sounds. Combining everything from James Taylor, The Band, Little Feat, Steely Dan, Chris Stapleton, Elton John and Todd Rundgren. His powerful voice, strong guitar playing and exceptional stage presence and attention to detail has made him a sought after performer and collaborator for over a decade.
