About Taneya Rogers -
I am a proud daughter of Trinidad and Tobago, a nation shaped by the richness of many races, religions, and traditions. Growing up in this cultural mosaic taught me inclusiveness, celebration, and the beauty of shared heritage. These vibrant influences which were deepened by the wisdom of my grandparents, sparked my lifelong love for writing and the spoken word. Migration expanded that foundation. Moving from Trinidad to the United States and later to Canada broadened both my voice and my opportunities. I evolved from a freelance writer for Trinidad’s Outlish Magazine to an editor for several Western Canadian publications over the past six years, including Melanistic Magazine, Vancouver Foundation, Entrepreneurial Journal, NBCC’s Black History Month Publication, and currently The Nod Magazine. Motherhood and my journey as an immigrant continue to shape my perspective and strengthen my commitment to community. I have witnessed how storytelling and spoken word can open pathways for cross-cultural understanding while preserving my Caribbean heritage here in Canada. I am equally devoted to creating platforms that amplify the voices and lived experiences of racialized communities. My work is rooted in honoring those who came before me and in building a legacy of learning, representation, and authentic cultural appreciation.
