Chelsea Rathburn is the author of three full-length poetry collections, most recently Still Life with Mother and Knife, a New York Times “New & Noteworthy” book released by Louisiana State University Press in February 2019. In a 2019 feature, NPR called Rathburn’s work “arresting” and “a gentle whirlwind.” Rathburn has deep roots in the state of Georgia, where her mother’s family has lived since the 1830s. She is currently an associate professor of English-Creative Writing at Mercer University. In March 2019, Rathburn was appointed poet laureate of Georgia, and in 2021 she was awarded an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship.
Jacquelyn Markham, author of three chapbooks, including Rainbow Warrior, Finishing Line Press (2023) and a personal mythology, Peering Into the Iris: An Ancestral Journey (2008), has published widely in journals and anthologies, such as Archive: South Carolina Poetry Since 2005, Adrienne Rich: A Tribute Anthology, Fall Lines, Woman and Earth, & others. Markham’s awards include three Georgia Council for the Arts grants, a Kentucky Women’s Foundation Award, a SC Arts Grant, and her poem “Mother of the Marsh: Aisling” placed first in the 2025 Lowcountry Weekly Poetry Contest. A former professor, she was awarded the Adele Mellen Prize for distinguished scholarship for The Complete Poetry of Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Together with Commentary and Notes (Mellen 2014). Markham earned an MA and a PhD in Creative Writing from Florida State University. She lives and writes in Beaufort where she mentors poets and writers. A long time member of the Poetry Society of South Carolina, she has recently joined the board.
