Poetry of Care

Caroline Smith will read from her new collection, 'Bycatch' - poems that capture a life gradually scraped bare by dementia yet find amongst the isolation, moments of joy, epiphany and love.

These poems ask where is personhood when memory and language are gone. With grace and often great humour, Smith unravels the intricate nature of care and the symbiosis of family. It is in the swell of the wave, as aging and loss threaten to engulf even the words, these extraordinary poems remain tender, unforgettable and salt sharp. Smith will also read from her acclaimed collection, 'The Immigration Handbook', shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Award.

Caroline Smith lived in Cambridge for 20 years. She was awarded an Eastern Arts Bursary. She now lives in Wembley where she works with refugees.
