April is Poetry Month, and the Narrow Gauge Book Cooperative is thrilled to celebrate with a poetry reading and open mic, for the second year!
On April 25th, which is also Indie Bookstore Day, we’re celebrating poetry, books, community, and local poets!
Beginning at 6pm we will hear from local poets Victoria (Tori) Martinez and Angela Myers, followed by a spoken word open mic where we get to hear from you!
Victoria (Tori) Martinez is a native San Luis Valley artist, poet, and author whose work centers cultural identity, healing, and lived experience. Rooted in Hispanic culture and shaped by disability and chronic illness, her poetry explores self-discovery, resilience, and the power of voice inviting readers to reflect with honesty, tenderness, and a sense of shared humanity. Her second poetry collection, Out of the Ashes, released on April 1st.
In one of the many beginnings, Angela lived for two years in a small farming village in the cloud forests of Ayabaca, Perú and spent her days there primarily tending relationships and learning deep humility and awe of culture, place and land. Before and after her time in Perú, she served her Colorado community as a bi-lingual elementary teacher in urban Denver. Angela nurtures a deep kinship with Ancestors, Place, Nature, Spirit, and Heart and is exhilarated to share this Love with her community. She is the co-author of SPIRIT: A Dance of Poetry. Currently residing at the foot of Sisnaajini (commonly known as Mt. Blanca) in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, Angela is living off-grid while learning to work with the energies of that place. She is practicing reciprocity with 35 acres while on the epic adventure of building an Earthship, a fully sustainable home-temple that is the deepest expression of her creativity. Angela is also a sanctioned and initiated teacher of ceremonial arts with The Heart of The Healer Mystery School, and a loving companion with her career-changed guide dog, Wyclef.
Join the Narrow Gauge on April 25th at 6pm for an evening of poetry!
