Poetry reading with Jon Hare, author of Woods Hole Senryu on the eve of the famed Falmouth Road Race. The collection celebrates the contrasts and contradictions of Woods Hole in the form of Japanese senryu. Senryu is similar to haiku and highlights the foibles of human nature in a humorous or satirical way. Attendees will also be invited to write their own senryu or haiku on postcards and enjoy a light snack (think: protein bars, reusable water bottles, running replenishment!). There will also be a book giveaway!
Jon, a scientist from Woods Hole, connects running and poetry: Running for me is a time to think - almost meditative. The order of poems in Woods Hole Senryu is geographic, starting in Woods Hole, up to Falmouth, and back to Woods Hole. Many of the poems were thought of and worked on while running. The first half is effectively the Falmouth Road Race course and my training on and running the course was instrumental in developing the collection.
