Our quest to discover poetry we have not heard before, and parks we have not visited yet, continues. Meet #31 is in a Belapur park. Please note: a later start this time: 5:30 p.m. Please mail [email protected] by Saturday morning to get the map pin and a calendar invitation.

=====
We love poetry. We live in a city that has parks of all sizes in every corner. So we thought, why not combine the two?
And, since January 2024, that is what we have been doing.
Please email poetry.in.parks.nm @ gmail to get the exact location pin, calendar invitation, and suggested theme for the meet.
Please share this with friends who love poetry.
Important basics:
• Bring at least three poems you like (not your own) to read out to the group. No attending just to listen.
• We suggest you skim through all the titles in our YouTube archive to see what we have read before. We do not insist that you only bring poems that we have not shared yet, but it would be nice to hear something new.
• We meet in public parks with free entry, and there are no membership or attendance fees for our meets.
More information:
• You don’t have to introduce yourself beyond whatever name it is you would like the other attendees to call you and your pronouns. (You can say more if you wish to.)
• Everyone who attends must share at least two poems. We suggest bringing at least three. To be clear, not your own poems.
• Poems can be in any language you are comfortable with, but we use English as a link language, so for poems in other languages, a rough English translation or summary or explanation would be nice.
• We also suggest that you bring short poems — that is, two to four minutes read-aloud time each — to ensure that there is time for everyone to share. (Bring long poems if you like, but don’t bring only long poems. And we ask for permission from the group before we read anything longer than five minutes.)
• You can tell the group what you like about the poem and/or the poet’s work and/or useful context, but this is not mandatory. If you choose to do this, please keep the introductions short.
• We sometimes chat about poems after they have been read, but it is also perfectly fine to come just to read poems and enjoy the readings by others.
• We will be recording the readings (for our YouTube and Instagram), and those present may take photographs and/or post about the evening in their social media. If you don’t want to be recorded, photographed, named, or tagged on social media, say so and that will be respected, no questions asked.
• If you don’t like sitting on grass (also, the grass may be wet), bring something you can sit on. Some of us may bring mats or newspapers, folx have brought small folding stools. If anyone attending cannot or does not want to sit on the grass, no worries; we will sit near a park bench so they can be comfortable.
• Near sunset, there will be almost definitely be mosquitos, so bring a repellent.
• It is likely to be hot, so we suggest carrying water.
• Our meets usually go on for up to two hours, so please commit to being there for at least that much time.
• Post-meet, we usually have a snack and/or a beverage at some modest stall or restaurant, or just to chat — we’re sharing poetry love and building community after all — but please feel no pressure to stay if you’re not feeling sociable or have other demands on your time.
Future meets:
• The venue will change each time. We want to cover parks all over Navi Mumbai.
• Please feel free to suggest parks you know well. Make sure they are open to the public in the evenings, not too crowded for a small group to find a quietish corner to sit together in, convenient for public transport, and accessible to people with disabilities. Parks must also have shade. The ones that have those little gazebo structures would be great for the rainy months. Reasonably priced restaurants or cafes or food stalls in the vicinity would be a plus.
