The Annual October Dead Poet's ReadingJohn G. Neihardt will read from his poetry
at The Lion on October 10th, 2025, at 1309 R street.
Artwork by select artists from Tugboat Gallery will be on display.
John G. Neihardt was named Poet Laureate of Nebraska and the Plains in perpetuity, in 1921, the third state poet in the country to be designated as a State Poet Laureate.
He is most famous for writing Black Elk Speaks and Cycle of the West, although there was much more to him and his writings than only that.
Given that John G. Neihardt died in 1973, at age 92, his personal readings will be limited to video and/or audio recordings made of him during his life. Context, some additional readings, and Q&A will be provided by Nancy Gillis, longtime Executive Director of the Neihardt Center in Bancroft. She will design the presentation.
