About this Event
Juneteenth is approaching: a time of remembrance, recognition, and reverence that invites us to reflect on the ongoing journey toward freedom, while honoring the resilience, brilliance, and enduring spirit of Black people across generations. ✊🏾
On June 19th, 1865, in Galveston, Union troops arrived to announce that enslaved Black people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. What we now celebrate as Juneteenth stands as both a celebration of liberation and a reminder of delayed justice, perseverance, and the continued fight for equity.
And what better way to honor that legacy than through Black storytelling, living stories, shared histories, and gathering in community to commemorate through Black artistry.
I’m incredibly excited to be producing the 4th Edition of Poetic Pages: Where Black Poets Speak at the West Bergen Branch Library.
Poetic Pages: Where Black Poets Speak is a special tier of Mocha Mic with Millie that uplifts Black poets, preserves their stories, and creates space for connection and reflection.
We’ll feature three dynamic Black poets and storytellers sharing their journeys, creative processes, and the depth of Black experience through their work.
