Poet Natasha Elle Thomas will step up to the mic on Sunday, April 19, at 4 PM, at the Copper Chimney Poetry Series, at UUMC, 1120 South Harrison Rd., East Lansing — across the street from MSU, and directly north of the Trowbridge Shopping Center. Ample free parking is available behind the church. The event is free & open to the public.An Open Mic will follow the Intermission. Attendees wishing to share a poem in the Open Mic are invited to throw their names in the basket at the Gate Table.
Natasha Elle Thomas is a writer/artist/educator and activist whose work explores the intersection of creative expression, social justice and personal healing. As a performer and collaborator, she has shared the stage with influential figures, including the late bell hooks, Dr. Kimberle Crenshaw, Harry Belafonte, Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monae, and Jesse Williams. She has also worked with Yo-Yo Ma and the University of Michigan Musical Society to design community-centered programs that explore justice, resilience, and liberation.
Thomas has been published extensively in magazines, journals, and a report by the Black Congressional Caucus and John Hopkins University. A dedicated educator, she teaches narrative writing for healing and liberation through midnight & indigo, a platform for Black women writers, and leads Women, Writing, & Resistance with the Fellowship of the Griots.
