Podcasting “From Below” — Truer Crime Season 2 and Good Judy launch
Join us for an exciting in-person event at Plymouth Congregational Church! We're thrilled to announce the launch of Truer Crime Season 2 and Good Judy podcasts. Meet the hosts, mingle with fellow fans, and enjoy a night of storytelling and laughter. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to be part of the podcasting community "from below"!
Who gets to tell the story, and how do they tell it? Join us for a conversation between two Minneapolis podcast creators driven by a mission to tell stories that center justice and equity.
Celisia Stanton is the creator of , a podcast that goes beyond the headlines to uncover untold details and hidden layers in real-life crime stories. Each episode offers a fresh perspective, exploring both well-known and lesser-known cases to reveal surprising truths about justice in America. The show’s eagerly anticipated second season launches in January 2025.
Chris Stedman is the creator of the podcast , an exploration of minority stress, suicide loss, and LGBTQIA community that was named one of the best shows of 2021 by outlets like the Guardian, HuffPost, and Vulture. Chris is also the founder of Good Judy Productions, a new podcast studio based in Minneapolis committed to telling stories that, in the words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, take the “view from below,” or “the perspective of the outcasts, the suspects, the maltreated, the powerless, the oppressed and reviled, in short from the perspective of the suffering.”
In addition to a conversation between Celisia and Chris with time for audience questions, Black Garnet Books will be on-site hosting a pop-up bookstore beginning when doors open at 7 PM. Attendees are encouraged to purchase books from Black Garnet to donate to the Women’s Pr*son Book Project (WPBP). People can also bring books they already have to donate or donate money at the event to purchase additional books from WPBP’s Black Garnet wish list. Additionally, Queermunity, a new LGBTQ+ resource center in Minneapolis, will be tabling with information about ways people can get involved and support the local LGBTQ+ community. Refreshments will follow the event, including celebratory cupcakes generously donated by Sift.
Our host for the evening is the Conn Theater in Plymouth Congregational Church (1900 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55403). Park free in the church parking lot along Franklin Ave. and enter the theater at Door #3 on Nicollet Ave. The event is free and open to the public. Those who cannot or do not wish to participate in person may view it remotely on YouTube at youtube.com/@plymouthcongregationalchurch.
Join Celisia, Chris, Plymouth, Queermunity, and Black Garnet to celebrate the launch of both Truer Crime Season 2 and Good Judy Productions and to dive into a conversation about why both the stories we tell—and the way we tell them—matter.
