Improv scenes take flight when scene partners respect the rules of improv. Knowing the rules is critical, but demonstrating these skills inventively takes practice. Our weekly goals are to come together as diverse people, tap into our creativity, be "silly-but-focused" and have fun! After warm-up exercises, we will learn a few "improv rules" each week. The goal is to help everyone experience how these rules energise and enliven a scene. Then, the class will create pairs/groups to perform four-minute scenes, doing our best to incorporate the rules/skills—and laughing when we goof. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
Facilitators: Art McDermott is a retired social worker, as well as a stage and film actor, playwright and theatre director. Tom Dennis studied acting and singing after his planned career in medicine ended when watching his first autopsy. Bouncing to writing and producing, he has worked for Children’s TV, major museums and written/produced documentaries. Art and Tom moved to the Herault last year from Los Angeles.
This class is designed for native and advanced English speakers. Limited to 20 participants maximum. Please sign up if you can commit to attending at least three of the four sessions.
