Join Black Out for the second edition of Playback Movie Night!
This month, we’re screening T.V. Transvestite (1982), directed by Simone di Bagno and Michele Capozzi. Filmed years before Paris Is Burning, this rare documentary takes us inside a House of LaBeija ball held in a Harlem bingo hall, capturing legends including Pepper LaBeija, Dorian Corey, and Sugar at a pivotal moment in Ballroom history—before voguing had taken its now-familiar form and at the beginning of the AIDS crisis.
More than a glimpse into an earlier era, T.V. Transvestite is a vibrant record of the creativity, competition, glamour, and community that have always been at the heart of Ballroom. Come watch, learn, and connect as we revisit the people and moments that helped shape the culture we carry forward today.
