About this Event
First observed by Europeans in South America in the early 1800s, Victoria spp., commonly known as water-platters, have fascinated professional horticulturists to hobbyist gardeners alike … and since the late 1800s these unique aquatic plants have amazed visitors to public gardens around the world. Steeped in folklore and often recognized by their sheer size, water-platters are the perfect plant to illustrate the vast diversity of plants and our natural environments on Earth. Join Longwood Horticulturist Specialty Grower Tim Jennings, the point person for Longwood’s aquatic plants, to dive deeper into the topic of water-platters. Learn more about this remarkable aquatic plant and how Longwood grows these gems and displays them in our newly refreshed Waterlily Court. Enjoy a delicious small bite and signature cocktail to round out the fun.
Speaker Bio: Tim Jennings is a graduate of Longwood's Professional Horticulture Program and is a specialty grower and one of the curators for Longwood's waterlily displays. Jennings has taught several popular water gardening courses at Longwood and enjoys sharing what he does in a way that is practical and user-friendly for homeowners.
