It's time for the Spring Cypress Plant Swap Group's Fall 2024 Plant Swap!! 😉
It will take place on Sunday, October 20th at 1:00-3:30 pm at the Meyer Park BBQ Pavilion in Spring, Texas. Get your seeds, cuttings, plantings, pots, gardening tools, crafts, and swap items ready! -- Please be kind to other swappers and make sure that all potted items are well-rooted unless you disclose that they are freshly planted in a pot.
Also, bring something for a door prize if you would like to participate ($5 to $10 value). It can be anything you would like to share. New or gently used as long as it is something you would not mind winning yourself. (Some ideas are: handmade pot holders, a nice plant, wind chimes, stepping stones, trellis, gloves, crafts, sewn items, plant food, garden art, rabbit poop, books, etc.)
Just remember that every swap item MUST be FREE!! As we continue to grow, you may want to bring a portable table (such as a card table) and an umbrella or awning. Make a sign with your name so others can find you.
We have really grown these past years and need VOLUNTEERS for swap day. If you would like to help with a children's activity, sign in table, door prize table, directing / loading and unloading vehicles, setting up, cleaning up, please let me know. It would be nice to have 2 people for each post so they can trade out to swap themselves. Thank you ahead of time for your help!!
We will have a snack table if you would like to bring something to share. Bottled water, ice, plates, paper towels, and plastic ware will be provided. (Any donations would be greatly appreciated!)
Also, safe porch swaps are encouraged anytime if you would like to swap that way as well. If you have any questions, please ask!
*** NOTE: PARKING AND LOADING / UNLOADING IS ONLY ALLOWED ON THE PAVED AREAS. NO VEHICLES ON THE GRASS *** Please abide by this since we are guests at the park. We can help each other unpack and load up our vehicles in the designated drop off area. Thank you. 😉 ***
------------------------------
Basic Plant Swap Rules and Tips:
-- Have FUN and meet new planty friends!
-- Everything brought to the swap must be FREE!! No selling is allowed.
-- Please, only drive your vehicle on the paved drop off area and parking areas as per Meyer Park rules. DO NOT DRIVE OR PARK ON THE GRASS.
-- Sign in at the front table and pick up a name tag.
-- There will be a kitty can on the front table if you would like to donate a little to help offset costs for name tags, basic supplies, etc.
-- You may swap just about anything you would like. Some examples are: plants, seeds, cuttings, soil, pots, rabbit poop, dollar store items, broken or used metal, broken or used garden tools, books, toys, crafts, rocks, plant food, local honey, bee houses, bird feeders, wind chimes, funny plant signs, plant labels, milk crates, sewn items, artwork, services, etc.
-- Bring a nice door prize if you would like to participate ($5 to $10 value). Be mindful that it should be something you would not mind winning yourself. (Participation is optional.) Only one (1) prize ticket per prize donated. Limited 2 per person, please.
-- A swap must be agreed upon by both parties. Never feel intimidated to swap by another person.
-- Generally, a better or more rare plant will reward you with a better or more rare plant. (TIP: I often offer several common plants for one better or bigger plant.)
-- Place your swapped plants under or behind your table. This is a sign that means "hands off" to other swappers.
-- Never remove an item from another person's table without permission.
-- Bring something for the snack table if you would like. Ice, water, plates, cups, and plasticware will be provided.
-- Some items that may come in handy to transport and mark your trades are: plastic bags with paper towels, sharpies, tags, tape, extra pots, etc.
-- Potted plants should be well-rooted unless otherwise disclosed to other swappers. If they are cuttings just stuck in a pot of dirt or freshly dug up, please let the other party know.
-- Pre-swaps are encouraged before swap day but is not necessary. (If you have made pre-swap arrangements but cannot make it to the swap, it is kind to personally notify the other party involved.)
-- Bring a table or a blanket to show off your wares. Also, bring an umbrella, portable awning, or tent to keep cool in the hot sun. Mosquito repellent is a good idea as well.
-- Display a creative table sign with your name on it so others may find you.
-- If you have a small amount of items to swap, you might want to consider bringing a wagon instead of a table.
-- If you are just beginning to swap or learn about plants, bring what you have then start from there. It often takes years to build up a diverse plant collection. (TIP: When I purchase an uncommon plant at a nice nursery, I often learn how to propagate it so I can share with the group. OR, bring plants from the clearance area of a local plant store.)
-- Children are welcome and encouraged to bring their own items to swap. I personally love the children's crafts given to me throughout my years of swapping. They can start plants, paint rocks, make stepping stones, make wind chimes, etc.
-- Please consider bringing a swap item especially for the kids who attend. I normally like to propagate Chenille Plants in quart pots to hand out to them.
-- Be helpful to others by loaning your wagon for unloading from a car, by helping others set up or break down, by providing your knowledge about plants, or by guiding newbies on how to swap. Also, you might want to consider bringing an extra folding table for those who do not have one.
-- At the end of the swap, place any unwanted plants or items in the designated orphan pile for others to pick through. Anything left at the park after final clean up will be discarded.
-- Tell your family and friends about the joys of swapping! Also, seek out other swap groups in your area. A good place to start is the Texas Plant Swaps facebook page. HAVE FUN Y'ALL!
