TIME AND PLACE: Doors open at 6:15 PM and food is served at 6:30 PM - take an immediate right upon entering the building to find Meeting Room B - down the hall on the right.
INGREDIENT LIST: Please bring an ingredient list for those that have food allergies, sensitives and preferences.
WHAT TYPES OF FOOD / INGREDIENTS TO BRING: Unprocessed and/or minimally processed plant-based foods, such as greens, fruits (fresh or canned in natural juice), vegetables (fresh or canned), legumes (beans), grains, nuts. seeds, pasta, rice, bread, tempeh, tofu, soy curls, plant-based milks, coconut milk. maple syrup, molasses, date paste, nut and seed butters (including tahini), hummus, olives, avocados, guacamole, wheat germ, soy sauce, tamari, coconut aminos, miso paste, vinegars, hot sauces, salsa, mustards, BBQ sauces, ketchup, vegan worchester, liquid smoke, and other condiments.
WHAT TYPES OF FOOD / INGREDIENTS TO EXCLUDE: Please do not bring food with the following ingredients: 1) animal products such as meat, fish, chicken, pork, dairy (milk, cheese, butter, sour cream, etc.), eggs and gelatin; this includes sauces, broths and/or bouillons made with meat, fish, chicken or pork, 2) refined sugar, 3) processed vegan meats, 4) processed vegan egg substitutes, such as Just Egg, 5) processed vegan cheeses, cream cheese, butter, mayo or sour cream, 6) processed oil (for example, no olive oil, vegetable oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, seed oils, etc.); although there is evidence that a small amount of olive oil may be beneficial, at this time, we ask that it not be included in our potluck dishes.
A NOTE ABOUT REFINED FLOURS, GRAINS AND SWEETNERS: Not everyone avoids white flour, white rice, vegan chocolate chips, agave, honey, etc.; you may use these foods and ingredients as long as you include them on your ingredient list.
A NOTE ABOUT SALT: We avoid or minimize added salt; however, many recipes require added salt; that is okay as long as you include it on your ingredient list. We will provide a saltshaker so that you may salt your food "at the table".
TABLEWARE: Please bring your own tableware - the library has a water refill station for water bottles and a vending machine with bottled water and other beverages; otherwise, we will have tableware on hand - we have got you covered!
ON-SITE COMMUNITY FRIDGE: Because the Urbandale Public Library has graciously provided the use of their facility at no charge, we encourage everyone to bring an item to donate to their on-site community fridge, located in the lounge to the left of the entrance.
