Plainfield author, Crystal D. Reynolds will discuss her recent book, Sterling Boulevard (2024). In this sequel to Sammie's War, author Reynolds sets the scene in Newark, NJ, and Kansas City, MO, 10 years after Sammie's War.
Copies will be available to purchase, and Ms. Reynolds will donate a portion of the sales to the Library's Adult Literacy program.
In this sequel to her first novel, Sammie’s War, STERLING BOULEVARD illustrates the struggles & triumphs of prominent (now civilian) surgeon Robert Preston, M.D., Newark, NJ native Professor Sharon Portsmouth, Ph.D., & Rev. Dr. Carleton Pennington, D.D. It's now 1927, & they've all appeared to have acquired “The American Dream,” so popular in The Roaring 20's. However, all three have individual and collective interests in keeping a third party’s secret from being exposed. They must utilize their (limited) resources while delicately navigating through the atmosphere of racism and sexism permeating through the early 20th century. They must also protect their individual careers, safeguard their families, and protect a fledgling medical facility and entire church congregation from a “scandal” they didn’t cause, but nonetheless must rectify.
