About this Event

DESCRIPTION

Everybody in this city has a hot take. Very few of us ever have to say it out loud to somebody who disagrees.

Pizza, Prosecco & POV is an evening for exactly that. Not a panel, not a lecture — a debate night. Come with a point of view about Black New Orleans and put it on the table: our schools, sure, but also our culture and who profits from it, what this city owes the next generation, how we keep our own history, who gets to speak for a neighborhood. If you have been arguing about it in your kitchen, debate about it here.

How it works

Open floor. No slides, no agenda set in advance. The questions come from the room. Somebody makes a case, somebody asks a probing question, and the rest of us get sharper for having listened.

You don’t have to be an educator, an expert, or an organizer. You have to be willing to say what you think and hear what somebody else thinks back.

What’s served

Pizza and a glass of something cold. This is a 21+ event.

Come early for the gallery

The Community Gallery at Merchant Hall is open noon to 5 p.m. the same day — a timeline wall of this city’s Black education history and five stations for the pillars of Black Educational Brilliance. Free. Walk through it before Debate night starts.

Featured voices to be announced.

New Orleans Black Education History Week runs November 15–20, 2026 — the first year of a permanent, citywide commemoration adopted by the Orleans Parish School Board. See the full week at BIBWeek.com.
