Pitt County 4-H Teen Leadership Program: Camp Counselor 2026

The Pitt County 4-H Teen Leader Program is designed to help you transition from a participant into a leader. This summer, you have the opportunity to serve as a Camp Counselor, but you must choose the level of commitment that fits your goals.
There are two tracks: one for flexible service and one for those seeking a schoalrship to attend State 4-H Congress, later this summer.
Track 1: General Summer Volunteering
Perfect for teens who want to give back but have a busy summer schedule.
- The Role: You serve as a Camp Counselor, helping lead games, crafts, and activities for younger 4-H members.
- The Commitment: Flexible. You sign up for the shifts and dates that work for you. There is no minimum hour requirement.
- The Requirements:
- Must be enrolled in 4-H Online.
- Must attend the Summer Orientation on June 11, 2026.
- The Reward: You earn verified community service hours for school or honor societies and gain hands-on experience working with children.
Track 2: The Congress Scholarship Track
Designed for teens ready to make a commitment to leadership here in Pitt County!
- The Role: You serve as a Camp Counselor, taking on leadership role within our summer programs.
How it works:
- Youth must attend at least during the program year.
- Attend Teen Leader Summer Orientation: June 2026 TBA
- Complete 40 hours of volunteer service.

- To qualify for the Congress trip, youth must also complete ONE of these two options:
Path A: :
- April: Mandatory Practice Sessions
- June 26: District Activity Day Competition
- July 21: State Presentation Competition (For youth who place 1st or 2nd at District)
Path B: :
- May 8: AIRE Packet Deadline
- July: State Interviews at Congress
What is State Congress?
4-H Congress is an annual statewide event sponsored by North Carolina 4-H and planned by the State 4-H Council and the Congress Advisory Committee. For more than a century, this experience has brought together young people from across the state to learn, lead, and serve.
Youth ages 13 to 18 from across North Carolina are invited to participate in this multi day experience focused on leadership development, civic engagement, and connection.
The Goals of 4-H Congress are:
- Strengthening the reputation of 4-H as a statewide educational youth program
- Expanding knowledge of current issues through speakers, workshops, and group discussions
- Building leadership skills through committee work and active participation
- Engaging youth in the democratic process through campaigning for and electing State 4-H Officers
- Providing meaningful social and recreational experiences
- Recognizing excellence through state contests, project awards, and scholarships

Each year, Congress builds on a legacy that dates back to the early 1900s while offering experiences that continue to evolve for today’s youth, including:
