About this Event

Starting at the Pioneer Place totem pole, an easy approximately 90 minute walk around Seattle’s Pioneer Square Historic District, all via sidewalk. We’ll meet some characters from Seattle history you may not be aware of, visit forgotten places important to Seattle history, and attempt to reconstruct Dzidzilalich, Little Crossing Over Place, as it appeared in 1852 when Arthur Denny, Carson Boren, and William Bell beached their canoe on its shore in their search for a new townsite. We’ll talk about the physical changes over the next four decades that made Seattle into the modern city we would recognize today. We’ll meet the grandfather of a certain president, talk about the people who actually built Seattle, walk along the real “Skid Road”, and explode a couple of Seattle history myths while we do so. This walk is a benefit sponsored by the Alliance for Pioneer Square, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing the Pioneer Square Historic District, Seattle’s original neighborhood. This history walk is free, but donations to the Alliance for Pioneer Square are strongly encouraged.
