Discover the rich history and timeless art of pine needle basketry, a traditional craft rooted in the Southeast. 🌾 In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn coiling techniques, various stitches, and create your own unique basket. All materials will be provided—just bring your favorite scissors! ✂️
Meet our talented instructor, Erika Schneider, whose journey into basketry began nearly 40 years ago as a student intern at Callaway Gardens in Georgia. After being captivated by a basketry demonstration in a historic log cabin, Erika turned her curiosity into a lifelong passion. While completing her Biology degree at Augusta College, she shared her skills by teaching others this timeless craft.
Today, Erika continues to embrace her love for culture, nature, and community wellness. As a board member of Dig In! Yancey Community Garden, she combines her passions for gardening and local sustainability. When she's not crafting or gardening, Erika loves traveling and exploring the beauty of the natural world.
