About this Event
Join artist Christine Chua for ‘Pigment to Paint - Colours of the Earth’. In this unique and immersive workshop, you will have the opportunity to transform ordinary earth into luxurious watercolour paints, creating your own colour palette to take home with you!
This workshop is dedicated to artists, creators and environmentalists. Drawing on ancient resources of the Thames estuary and using bedrocks of the city as a repository for artistic expression, participants will learn about the fascinating origins of different types of pigment found in our locality.
After grinding and purifying earth into pigments, participants will be exposed to various natural binders that help turn pigment into paint. At the end of the workshop, participants will have fun with their new paint palette and work together to create a collaborative painting.
Let’s enjoy the alchemy behind the ancient process of paint-making, and celebrate this environmentally-conscious practice together!
Christine Chua is a Singaporean artist based in London, and a recent Fine Art graduate at the Slade School of Fine Art. Her work focuses on collecting found objects and foraging pigments for her installation works and ongoing drawing practice. Through her installation artworks, the artist challenges the legacy of site specific art, the alchemical process involved in creating clay sculpture and the organic sourcing of art materials.
