INTRODUCTION

The repertoire for this ABRSM Licentiate Diploma piano recital has been selected not only to reflect the breadth of the piano repertoire, but also to represent works that have shaped my development as a performer.

Rather than presenting a chronological survey of musical history, this programme brings together pieces that explore different aspects of musicianship and reveal meaningful connections across contrasting styles and periods.

Although these works span more than two centuries and represent diverse musical languages, they share a common concern with the relationship between structure and expression. From Classical clarity and Baroque counterpoint to Romantic lyricism, twentieth-century harmonic exploration and the use of colour and silence, each composer demonstrates a unique approach to creating musical coherence and emotional depth.

Together, these works trace the continuing evolution of the piano as an expressive instrument.
