Followed by a Reel Talk with Sandi Simcha DuBowski, Director of Sabbath Queen
For over two decades, filmmaker Sandi Dubowski (Trembling Before G-d) followed Amichai Lau-Lavie — scion of a 38-generation dynasty of Orthodox rabbis, performance artist, queer activist, and founder of the Lab/Shul in NYC — as he reimagined what it means to be both deeply Jewish and radically authentic. Sabbath Queen is a sweeping, intimate portrait of a man who refuses to choose between faith and freedom, gender and God, tradition and transformation.
Already a sensation on the international festival circuit, Sabbath Queen has earned three major awards and four nominations, including top honors at the Miami Jewish Film Festival and Outfest.
Sponsored by the Beth and Benjamin Goldberg Fund
