Photo Transfer Painting Technique with Andrea Kostyal

Andrea Kostyal is a studio artist living in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She is the cofounder of the Singing River Art Studio and the Artists Across Borders artist group. She is currently serving as the visual art coordinator for FestivalSouth.Originally from and trained in fine art in Hungary. She has been a resident of Hattiesburg for 16 years. For the past 20 years, she has specialized in abstract, dreamlike, mixed media cityscapes that reflect her interests in unity, diversity, and equality by emphasizing the unique architecture of different places and cultures.Her paintings have been invited to solo and group exhibitions at museums such as the Mississippi Museum of Art, and Meridian Museum of Art,universities, including University of Connecticut, The University of Southern Mississippi, William Carey University, and many galleries, and juried exhibitions regionally, nationwide, and internationally. Her paintings are represented by The Caron gallery on Tupelo and Laurel.

Join us for a fun-filled, hands-on photo transfer painting workshop at Bay Bridge Art in Bay St Louis, MS. To learn Andrea's technique of combining photography and painting into stunning masterpieces. No experience needed. Limited to 10 people maximum and 6 people minimum.

Class structure First hour: teacher shows how to select, edit, manipulate, modify, and print images. Second hour: painting the canvas or board/ teacher demonstrate how to transfer. Third hour: transferring images, advise and finish painting.

Supplies will be provided 12”x9” x 3/4 primed canvases At least 10 different colored acrylics, Matte Medium gel, brushes, old membership cards/gift cards to press out glue, paper towels, sanding paper, paper plates for paint, cups for water,scissors.

You can bring hairdryers to share- it makes the drying time faster for the acrylic underpainting. You can also bring your own favorite paintbrushes, acrylic paint colors, and other acrylic painting supplies if you prefer. I encourage you to bring a digital format of your photographs, it makes your artwork more personal. Picture on your phone is great. We will have a printers set up so we can print them at the Art Studio. You can also send a high-quality image to me at [email protected] subject workshop. It can be in black and white or color, but higher contrast is better.
