Photo City: Photo Walk 7 - Dundee West End

Running alongside V&A Dundee's upcoming exhibition Photo City, UNESCO City of Design Dundee are delivering a series of free photo walks that will take place on the first Sunday of each month from April – October 2024, at 2-4pm.

Each Photo Walk will be led by local photographer Ben Douglas, and will take place in different locations across Dundee, focusing on the city’s high streets, residential areas, architecture, iconic landmarks and more!

At the end of our Photo Walk series, we will create a publication featuring a selection of photographs that capture the people and places of Dundee through the eyes and camera lens of its citizens in our 10th year as the UK’s only UNESCO City of Design.

Bring along your own digital cameras, polaroids, film, phones or tablets! But if you do not have access to a camera, please let the team know in advance and they can support you. Please note that under 16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult. This route will follow footpaths and pavements with dropped curbs and pedestrian crossings but there will be some slight slopes.

Please bring your own water bottle, wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for any weather conditions, as this Photo Walk will take place outside.

PHOTOGRAPHY SUBMISSION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. Theme:

These photo walks are delivered by UNESCO City of Design Dundee and aim to capture a record of the people and places that make the story of our city special, in this, our 10th Year as a UNESCO City of Design

UNESCO City of Design Dundee will create a publication of photographs to celebrate the 10th anniversary. The featured photographs will be selected from the photos taken on the series of Photo City: Photo Walks in 2024, as well as through an open call.

Each Photo Walk will be led by local photographer, Ben Douglas, and will take place in different locations across Dundee, focusing on the city’s high streets, residential areas, architecture, iconic landmarks and more.

2. Eligibility:

- Photographs can be submitted for consideration for inclusion in UNESCO City of Design Dundee’s 10th year photography publication by all members of the public and both amateur and professional photographers.

- Photographs can be submitted by participants of any age, but young people under 16 years old must submit their guardian’s consent to submit photographs to be considered for inclusion in the publication.

- Photographs must be taken in the City of Dundee, Scotland and the location of the photograph must accompany the submission.

3. Submission Guidelines:

- Each participant can submit up to a maximum of three photographs per walk for consideration.

- Submitted photographs must be original works taken by the participant.

- Photos must capture the essence, beauty, and uniqueness of the city of Dundee.

- Images should be high-resolution at a minimum of 300dpi and in digital format.

- Inappropriate or offensive submissions will be disqualified.

4. Rights and Permissions:

- By submitting their photographs, participants grant permission for their images to be used in promotional materials related to the resulting publication showcasing Dundee.

- Participants retain the copyright to their photographs but agree to grant UNESCO City of Design Dundee rights to publish and reproduce the images in the publication and related materials.

- UNESCO City of Design Dundee reserve the right to publish and distribute the publication containing the selected photographs, which may be made available for sale to the public.

- Photographs selected for inclusion in the publication will be credited to the photographer.

- Participants whose photographs are selected for inclusion in the publication will not receive a prize or award of monetary value. Participants will receive no payment or income from the sale of the book. Funds raised by the sale of the book will go to programmes delivered by UNESCO City of Design Dundee.

- Participants will receive a complimentary copy of the publication.

5. Selection Process:

- A panel of judges will evaluate all submitted photographs based on creativity, originality, composition, and relevance to the theme.

- The final selection of images will be made by 14th October 2024. All selected photographers will be informed of the decision by 18th October 2024.

- The decision of the panel appointed by UNESCO City of Design Dundee is final, and no individual feedback will be given to unsuccessful submissions.

- Selected images will be featured in the publication about the city of Dundee.

6. Deadline and Submission:

- Participants will have 7 days from the Photo Walk to submit their maximum of three images.

- Entries must be submitted through the designated platform or email address provided by the organisers. Participants will be emailed details of where to submit their images and will also be briefed on the day of the Photo Walk by the team.

7. Disqualification:

- Participants found to be in violation of the Photo City: Photo Walk photography submission rules or submitting plagiarised work will be disqualified from the competition.

8. Disclaimer:

- The organisers are not liable for any loss, damage, or injury resulting from participation in the competition or publication of the book.

- By participating in the photography submission, participants agree to abide by the terms and conditions outlined above. The organisers reserve the right to amend or update the rules as necessary.
