About this Event

This sponsored event has been developed, organised, and funded by Eli Lilly & Co Ltd and will take place Face to Face at The Holiday Inn, Junction 40, Queens Drive, Ossett WF5 9BE.

This session is suitable for all Nurses and HCAs, whether new to T2 diabetes or needing a refresher.

Please Note This Session will be split over 4 days , when booking you need to book on to all 4 dates if you wish to attend them all.

Lunch will be available from 12pm.

Nicky Jackson and Sian Smith - Medical Education Associates with Lilly Diabetes will be delivering all of the sessions with the support of Helen Dobson and Kathryn Cooper Lead DSN Mid Yorks Hospital.

Mid Yorkshire Specialist Diabetes Nursing team will be supporting the event and are available to provided further support for HCPs to feel confident in managing their patients with type 2 diabetes.


  1. Oral meds afternoon workshop - 6th May - 2026, 12.30 - 4:30pm
  2. Incretin Therapies - 17th June 2026 - 12.30 - 4:30pm
  3. Topical insulin Part 1 - 15th July 2026 - 12.30 - 4:30pm
  4. Topical insulin Part 2 - 16th September 2026 - 12.30 - 4:30pm

  1. Practical use of oral therapies in type 2 diabetes: Evaluating treatment options.

Day 2 Agenda - Incretin Therapies – 17th June

Afternoon - 12:30pm – 4:30pm

  1. Overview of Incretin Therapies
  1. Use of Incretin Therapies
  1. Practical use of oral therapies in type 2 diabetes: Evaluating treatment options.


Mid Yorkshire Specialist Diabetes Nursing team will be supporting the event and are available to provided further support for HCPs to feel confident in managing their patients with type 2 diabetes




Day 3 Agenda - Topical Insulin Part 1 - 15th July

A fternoon - 12:30pm – 4:30pm

Reflecting on physiological and emotional aspects of therapy.

  1. To understand the normal physiology of insulin and glucagon.
  2. To explore the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes and potential progression to insulin therapy.
  3. To be able to identify which people would benefit from insulin therapy.
  4. To identify national and local guidelines and pivotal trials for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
  5. To appreciate the importance of assessing psychological wellbeing.

Coffee Break

Considerations for insulin therapy.

  1. To understand the differences between human, analogue, and biosimilar insulins.
  1. To understand the variety of insulins available and their associated profiles.
  1. To discover the appropriate rationale for choosing an insulin type and regimen.
  1. To be aware of insulin safety.
  1. To bring theory to life through case studies.

Agenda - Topical Insulin Part 2 - 16th September

A fternoon - 12.30pm – 4:30pm

Moving from Basal insulin

  1. To identify when it is time to move from once daily basal insulin.
  2. To explore local and national guidelines.
  3. To explore insulin intensification options.

Coffee Break

Life on Insulin Therapy

  1. To clarify the correct injection technique and understand the impact of lipohypertrophy.
  2. To recognise and understand the lifestyle factors that affect the management of insulin.
  3. To have the ability to effectively support people with diabetes on insulin therapy in managing these factors.
