About this Event

Join Making Space Bmore for the opening reception of our next show, Pharmaco/Liberation.
Pharmaco/Liberation is a group exhibition curated by Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) Curatorial Practice MFA candidate Juan T. Garcia. Artists Jorge Bordello, Mae Howard, Holland Houdek, Lohitha Kethu, Jess Keyes, Ellie Krakow and René Treviño examine healthcare through clinical themes and medical materials directly—pills, implants, biometric feedback, and diagnostic imaging. Across the gallery, visitors encounter objects and images that treat the body not as a passive subject of medicine, but as an active site where questions of access, authority, and resistance play out in material terms.

The show opens with a reception on April 10 from 5–8 PM. Admission is free.

The exhibition features painting, textiles, sculpture, video, and sound by seven artists, with public programming in partnership with Baltimore Harm Reduction Coalition and Alfred Lacks Carter Jr.

ABOUT THE CURATOR

Juan T. Garcia is a curator and educator working at the intersection of the health humanities and contemporary art. He holds a BS in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is a candidate for an MFA in Curatorial Practice at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA); he also studies at Johns Hopkins University as a visiting student. Pharmaco/Liberation is presented as a culmination of Garcia’s inquiry into curation as tactical biopolitics, and as a potent means of intervening in the contemporary governance of life.
