PGR Film Club (In-Person)

UGS Scholars Ahsan and Maya will be bringing you this month's Film Club with a night of immersive story-telling in recognition of November's Remembrance Day.

Remembrance day, 11 November in the UK, marks the day that World War 1 ended in 1918, and now is a national day to commemorate British service members who have died in wars and other military conflicts since the onset of World War 1.

We'll be watching 1917, directed by oscar-winning director Sam Mendes. At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (George MacKay) and Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers—Blake’s own brother among them.

We'll have pizza, snacks, and a thought-provoking discussion afterwards. Come get cosy with us!

Location: Westmere House on Edgbaston Park Road (G15 on the campus map).

Westmere House is the postgraduate researcher hub at the University of Birmingham, and provides a place for postgraduate researchers to meet, connect and work.

Registration will close 15 mins before the event start time or when tickets are sold out. We will be checking attendees against the Eventbrite registration and you may be refused entry if we have met capacity and you are not on the list.
