A century ago, a design competition set the stage for what would become one of Melbourne’s most iconic landmarks—the Shrine of Remembrance. For 90 years, it has stood as an iconic sentinel in Melbourne's architecture, but what if things had turned out differently? In this fascinating panel discussion led by architect and former Grand Designs Australia host Peter Maddison, uncover the forgotten designs for Victoria's War Memorial and get an exclusive insight into the creative process behind the Shrine's inception.
This panel features Chair of the Heritage Council of Victoria Philip Goad, Dr Katti Williams, and the team behind the Shrine’s Designing Remembrance exhibition. Together, they will reveal the rival visions and the architects behind them, and share new insights uncovered during the development of the exhibition.
Guests are invited to a private viewing of the Designing Remembrance exhibition in the Shrine’s galleries prior to the discussion.
