Contact Improvisation Intensive Workshop with Linda Bufali"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." — Viktor Frankl
📆 Dates: 1-2 Noiembrie 2025
🕛 Time: 12:00 - 19:00 daily
Detailed schedule tba
Dear dancers and movement enthusiasts,
We propose an intensive weekend of exploring the principles of Contact Improvisation – a movement practice that explores the conversation between people, gravity, and spontaneous creativity. In the space between impulse and action, we discover new possibilities for authentic movement and connection.
Born from Steve Paxton's vision in 1972, Contact Improvisation is a dialogue written in motion—two bodies conversing through touch, weight, and the ancient laws of gravity and momentum. The body, in order to open to these sensations, learns to release excess muscular tension and abandon a certain quality of willfulness to experience the natural flow of movement. Here, dancers discover the poetry hidden in rolling, falling, and the simple miracle of shared weight.
In this workshop we will dance in contact with each other, the floor and gravity: building blocks of Contact Improvisation. We will be astonished that we can be permeable to any stimulus, so much so that we become a channel for movement that travels from us to the other, from us to the floor and from us to the space.
The concept of permeability reverses the paradigm of doing and controlling with that of letting it happen. Which does not mean not doing; on the contrary, it means continually choosing to be permeable and then reacting. We will take the time to take in the stimuli. A fragment of precious time in which improvisation can emerge.
More concretely, Linda will propose movement experiences that help to acquire a quality and listening that open the dancer to the present and to letting in. We'll build channels of connection in the skin, bones and thoughts. There will also be short speaking circles to continually integrate and nurture the process.
Exercises and games will be developed according to the structure that Nancy Stark Smith called "Simple-complex-simple".

About Linda Bufali
Linda discovered Contact Improvisation in 1998 during a physical theatre course and was immediately fascinated by it, beginning a long learning process that continues to this day.
Since 2008 she has been teaching in many Italian communities and abroad (Spain, France, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Ukraine, Greece, Israel, Japan). For Linda, teaching means feeding her own research while satisfying the need to contribute to and support that of others.
She has conceived and organized events with the desire to spread CI as much as possible (Italy Contact Camp and CicloNomade) because she believes it is an extraordinary, powerful and healthy revolution that starts from us, from our bodies.
Personally, Linda experiences Contact Improvisation as the best way she has in this life to meet someone outside of social compromises, to meditate and keep the urge to move alive. As she puts it: "Life is movement, moving in two accelerates awareness."
👉 Who Should Join
This intensive welcomes people of all movement backgrounds and experience levels. Contact Improvisation is accessible to anyone curious about embodied dialogue and authentic movement exploration.
We aim to create a setting for those interested in continuous practice, in a focused way, with commitment to fully attend the sessions, coming on time and staying until the end, supporting the space by dancing and witnessing.
