Welcome to the opening of Permanent Home of Displacement at Gallery Augusta on Friday October 3rd from 17.00-20.00.Exhibition is open 4th - 26th October. Opening hours are Tuesday -Sunday between 12:00-17:00
The exhibition presents a polyphonic portrait of contemporary Crimean Tatar culture in exile, shaped by corepreal, spatial, and political vulnerability. The project views the state of permanent displacement both as a historical trauma and as a potential space for new solidarities, communities, and visual languages to emerge through rupture. It acknowledges that in the face of war and colonial violence, even the search for a home can become an act of resistance—and a creative gesture.
At the heart of the exhibition are the voices of five Crimean Tatar artists whose present state of living in exile informs their practice: Yusuf Abibulaiev, Renata Asanova, Emine Ziyatdin, Sevilâ Nariman-qizi, and Elmira Shemsedinova. The exhibition explores the personal experiences of losing territory, family archives, and mythology, and how the fragments of a lost identity can be reassembled to create a symbolic space for restoration and resistance.
Curated by Maria Kulykivska and Dana Neilson, Permanent Home of Displacement is a collaboration of Garage33 Gallery-Shelter, Ukraine Solidarity Residencies Programme and HIAP- Helsinki International Artist Programme. It is supported by the European Union through the House of Europe programme and Goethe-Institut Finnland.

Venue: HIAP Gallery Augusta, B28 Suomenlinna, Helsinki
On exile, identity, and the notion of home - in conversation between curator Mariia Tseloeva and artist Maria Kulikivska
The conversation will offer an opportunity to reflect on how personal experiences of displacement, loss of home, and the search for self are transformed into artistic practices. At the center of the discussion are questions of memory, women’s voices, and corporeality, as well as how art can become a space of resistance and recovery — a way to gather fragments of identity and to build a symbolic home within a community.
Time: 5.10 2025 17.00-18.30
Venue: Museum of Impossible Forms, Aallonhalkoja 9 L1, 00540 Helsinki
Colonisation, everyday resistances and art - panel discussion with facilitator Sepideh Rahaa and panelists Emine Ziyatdin, Sevilâ Nariman-qizi, and Moe Mustafa
The panel discussion will address the important position of art and artists in today’s world where colonisation and its violence continue causing global issues drastically affecting all living beings. In what forms and ways artists can respond and deal with the current situations? Together with the invited guests we will touch contexts of anti-colonialism, everyday resistances, and collective memory.
