🌲Lower Frederick Park Board is excited to be kicking off a community walking group known as the "Perkiomen Pacers". 🌲The next walk will take place May 31st at 10:00AM (early arrival is suggested and a representative will be holding a small white flag at the starting point)
-No registration required! Just show up and get your steps in!
-Rain or Shine!
🌲The exact starting point will be on the Pennypacker Mansion Porch!
Carl Klase, Historic Site Supervisor will lead a walking tour of the property and stop at a variety of places to discuss the encampment that occurred at Pennypacker Mills from September 26-29, 1777 and their return to the property on October 5-8, 1777 as a part of the Germantown Campaign or the larger Philadelphia Campaign.
The walk will be mostly on mowed grass, though we will be walking past high grass, so there can be deer ticks, so inspect repellent can be brought along. The walk is around a mile and a half and less than 2 miles.
The walk will show the three burial sites that have markers, the large monument placed by the Historical Society of Montgomery County, and other locations such as where the Miller's House stood that was used as a hospital, location of the Artillery Park- where General Knox had the artillery encamped, along with stories of human interest that have been collected that relate to the encampment.
📣Park Board is looking for suggestions and contacts for future trail walks! If you have ideas or suggestions, please email [email protected]
