Peia Luzzi is an American-born singer, songwriter, song collector and multi-instrumentalist whose music draws from the deep well of Celtic and Old World European folk traditions. For more than a decade, she has traveled extensively in search of the songs and stories carried through these traditions. From Child Ballads and centuries-old Irish laments to Scottish waulking songs and the powerful polyphonic traditions of Eastern Europe Peia weaves them into conversation with her own original songwriting.
Ashland holds a particularly special place in Peia’s story. She called Southern Oregon home for 12 years, and it was here that much of her early work took root and a devoted community grew around her music. This October marks her first Ashland concert in four years.
Peia returns with an intimate trio featuring Devin Morgan on percussion and Ethan Jodziewicz on double bass. Together they create a lush, organic soundscape, moving between hypnotic rhythms, original songs and reimagined folk treasures.
Originally trained in classical voice at the New England Conservatory, Peia has spent the past 13 years touring internationally, with performances throughout Europe, Australia, Bali, Brazil and Canada. Her music has reached millions of listeners around the world and led to collaborations with artists and scholars including Coleman Barks, Michael Meade, Rising Appalachia, Ajeet, Estas Tonne, Peter Kater and Eílish Kennedy.
In 2025, Peia signed with Nettwerk Music Group, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her work. Her forthcoming album, arriving in spring 2027, brings together her original songwriting with the cinematic orchestration of producer Trewin Howard of Phoria.
"She uses bowed acoustic bass, harmonium, bodhrán and charangon to generate an otherworldly ambience. Peia sings like a stringed instrument, creating countermelodies that dance through the arrangements with an air of blissful sorrow...."
~ Downbeat Magazine
"Moving seamlessly from Hungarian lullaby to Scottish reel, Peruvian proverb and poetic originals, Peia constructs a prayer-like cycle of songs that often permeate with hushed vocals and restrained melodies before adding grooves that edify and further mesmerize.”
