PedalSafe ROA April Public Meeting: Wiley Drive Bridge Replacement & Greenway Closure

Join us for a ride and meeting about the upcoming Wiley Drive low water bridge replacement project!

Ride: Meet at the intersection of Ferdinand Ave and Highland Ave (near Highland Park) at 5:30pm for a 5:45pm ride along a potential Greenway detour route during the project.

Discuss: We will end our ride at Wasena City Tap Room at 6:30pm for a discussion on the bridge replacement project, potential impacts for local businesses, and possible detour routes for Greenway users. Afterwards, hang out and chat with fellow safe cycling advocates.

Project Background:

The 9-12 month bridge replacement project is slated for late fall 2026 and will replace the existing Wiley Drive Low Water Bridge, which carries one-way vehicle traffic and the Roanoke River Greenway over the Roanoke River. Wiley Drive and the Greenway will be closed during the project.

This means that one of the most traveled sections of the Roanoke River Greenway will be closed for 9-12 months, severing a key connection point in Roanoke’s protected cycling and pedestrian infrastructure.
