JEFF PEARRING has released four critically endorsed albums under Pearring Sound, and continues to perform under the Pearring Sound moniker with trios, quartets, quintets, and a double trio all formed from thoughtful combinations of world class musicians. In 2018 Jeff Pearring created the “Instrumental Underground” musical series at the Brooklyn based Mirror tea house. In 2020 a collaboration with the King of Independent Animation, Bill Plympton, resulted in the release of the animated music video “Odd Duck.” Odd Duck has been selected for awards at over a dozen festivals internationally. In 2022 Jeff was selected to participate in 577 Records music residency Sound of Freedom in Italy. In 2023 Jeff revived the "Instrumental Underground" at Ibeam in Brooklyn, NY. In 2025 Jeff and the group GPS released the album Directions + Destinations on 577 Records.
JON ELBAZ is a pianist and composer from New Jersey. His early exposure to music was through his mother’s CD compilations of Erroll Garner, Jobim, and Frederic Chopin, among many others. While attending New England Conservatory he spent a substantial number of hours searching for confluences between the ethereal mystery of Alexander Scriabin, the intensity and power of John Coltrane, and the perceivable gradations of speed present in rhythmic ratios. This investigation continues in his compositional and ensemble approach, which has since incorporated interest in the 20th century’s written structures and systems, as well as its many pioneers of improvisation and creative thinking. Part of his ongoing study is developing a language for solo piano performance that focuses on different phrases occurring simultaneously.
EVAN PALMER (they/them) is a bassist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and educator based in Brooklyn. They specialize in improvised music and jazz. Raised in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, Palmer moved to Boston in 2018 to attend Berklee College of Music, where they studied with John Lockwood, Francisco Mela, Bob Gullotti, and Linda May Han Oh. They graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Music in Bass Performance. Palmer's music is a synthesis of many artistic influences, drawing from the jazz tradition, improvised musics from around the world, folk and country music, rock and roll, metal, and more. Through improvisation, composition, and an arsenal of traditional and extended techniques, they are developing a deeply personal artistic language and concept that can be heard across their many different projects, from solo bass performances, to hard-hitting free jazz ensembles, to jazz standards and more.
