Pawley's Island Rain Water Harvesting Workshop

Join Clemson Extension, Seamon Whiteside, and Pawley's Island staff on Wednesday, May 7th to install a cistern at Town Hall! This half-day workshop will including an installation of a cistern and discussion on how to size a rainwater harvesting system and maintenance considerations.

Time: Check-in begins at 8:30am, the workshop will take place from 9:00am-12:00pm.

Location: Pawley's Island Town Hall, 323 Myrtle Avenue, Pawleys' Island, SC

Description: Rainwater harvesting is the collection and storage of rainwater from roof surfaces for later use, typically in non-potable applications. This source of water can be used to irrigate landscape beds, butterfly gardens, rain gardens, and container plants, as well as to create wildlife features such as birdbaths or butterfly puddling areas. Rainwater harvesting helps protect clean water by decreasing the amount of stormwater runoff which leaves a site. Rainwater harvesting can also be used to manage flooding and erosion around the foundation of a building.

Target audience: Pawley's Island landscape professionals, Master Gardeners, garden club members, educators, residents

Price per attendee: $15

Participants must dress to dig, plant in a rain garden, and spread mulch. Please wear clothes that can be washed with closed-toed shoes. A hat, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle are also recommended. Gloves and tools will be provided. Snacks will also be provided throughout the morning.
