PAWA Paints Historic downtown Bremerton Waterfront

Don't miss a downtown Bremerton summer Paint-out—where the city has scenic sea and mountain landscapes, gritty Naval industrial history, and features uptown art deco buildings.

In a Navy town built on craft, Bremerton has long recorded its history in lines—etched in steel and shaped through the hands of makers. On August 12, join the Bremerton Creative District as it carries its traditions into paint, gathering artists to interpret the waterfront, streets, and structures that hold those stories as a part of its cultural revival.

Meeting location, date and time

Date: Wednesday, August 12

Time: Meet up for site tour at Bremerton Ferry Terminal at 9:30 a.m.
Find you downtown location for painting all day or pause to take lunch @ one of several downtown restaurants.
Artist wrap up gathering for sharing work back at the terminal.
Presented by: Bremerton Creative District
Where We’ll Paint
We’ll gather in front of the Transit Center, then tour south of the ferry terminal to Fountain Park, where navy-inspired fountains and public art sit alongside the Puget Sound Navy Museum—a fitting starting point for a city shaped by maritime craft and history.
From there, artists can explore a range of nearby locations up Pacific Avenue or on the Bremerton Waterfront:
– The Bremerton Boardwalk and marina, offering active waterfront scenes, ferry arrivals, and views of the historic USS Turner Joy
– The Art Deco core of Quincy Square and Pacific Avenue, includes the Admiral Theatre, the Downtown Bremerton Library, and the Roxy Theatre
– Civic and waterfront architecture, from the Norm Dicks Government Center to waterfront structures and views toward the Manette Bridge and Mt. Rainier.
Each location offers a different lens on Bremerton—from its naval roots and harbor to its civic spaces in the City's evolving creative district. Galleries in downtown line Pacific Avenue and offer an opportunity to see local work.
What to Expect
This is an informal, open-format paint out. Bring your preferred medium and work at your own pace. We’ll meet initially at the ferry terminal to discus locations and logistics. Those interested can plan to regroup briefly for lunch midday. At the end of the day, we'll meet at the ferry terminal and share our projects and connect before departure.
Downtown Bremerton offers a range of lunch options—from quick cafés to waterfront dining—within a short walk of all paint-out locations, so artists can explore or refuel at their own pace or gather with fellow artists.
Wear walking shoes and dress for the weather. There are restrooms available at the Ferry Terminal and City Hall.
There is no fee for participating. Participants bring their own materials and pay for lunch and transportation expenses.

Lunch plans, Bring sack lunch or restaurant/grocery suggestions:

Plan to eat lunch around noon and make plans to meet during the orientation.
Anthony's at Sinclair Inlet – seafood, classic Northwest waterfront dining
Boat Shed Restaurant – laid-back pub fare right on the water (requires transportation over bridge)
El Balcon – popular Mexican, quick and flavorful
Axe and Arrows - Gastropub
The Coffee Oasis – sandwiches, coffee, community space
Tipsy Blackbird Wine Bar - small bites and boards...to name a few.

After lunch, if a new location, time and what is there:

Artists may decide to continue painting in same or other location, as desired. It is suggested to choose one uptown and one waterfront location to maximize diversity of the site.

End of day plan - (i.e. dinner, show and tell):

Show and tell at the Ferry Terminal starting at 2 p.m.
