About this Event

Weaving a route from Highgate to the Thames, The River Fleet is London’s most celebrated hidden waterway. Buried in a network of sewers today, the once open river defined the western limits of the old City and was once crowded with monuments to Medieval power and influence. Overwhelmed in the 18th century, the urbanised Fleet was completely transformed in the 19th and 20th centuries to become a heavyweight artery to commerce and industry. Moving through monastic market gardens, Victorian mega projects and modern commercial leviathans, this walk charts architecture, landscape and epic urban change down the Lower River Fleet between Clerkwenwell to the Thames.
