Join us on Thursday, January 8 from 5:30-7 p.m. for the artist's reception of Paul Krikau: Unsteady Witness. Paul describes his solo exhibit this way: Unsteady Witness is a chaotic mix of close-up paintings and melted crayon works that move between pollinators, wildflowers, human eyes, mythologized nature, and alcohol vessels. The subjects don’t try to fit into a single category—nature, humans, personification, and everyday objects all show up side by side. What connects them is the way they’re seen: up close, cropped tight, and focused on color, light, and texture.
Many of these works come from the artist’s immediate surroundings, especially the backyard and the home, with some surrealistic exceptions. By narrowing in on singular objects or portions of a whole rather than the bigger image, the paintings reflect a kind of unsteady attention. The result is a record of looking and seeing that’s personal, imperfect, and deliberately unsettled.
The exhibit will be on display from Wednesday, January 7 through Tuesday, February 3.
